New Turnstiles in the Nizhny Novgorod Metro
Infomatika has completed the installation of Contour EK smart turnstiles at Moskovskaya station in the Nizhny Novgorod Metro. The project included 40 turnstile units: 22 for entry and 18 for exit.
On September 29, 2026, Anton Maksimov, Deputy Head of the Nizhny Novgorod City Administration, inspected the operation of the new equipment at Moskovskaya station. Oleg Yaushev, Director of the municipal enterprise Nizhny Novgorod Metro, also presented the results of the modernization.
The new equipment replaced turnstiles that had been in service for more than four decades. The upgrade at the station, which serves passengers arriving at Moskovsky railway station, marked another stage in the Nizhny Novgorod Metro modernization program.
Contour EK smart turnstiles are made of stainless steel and tempered glass. The model supports access using contactless bank and transport cards, barcodes, QR codes, and NFC tags. Color displays show ticket status and passenger messages, while smart indicator lights show the direction of passage and whether access is permitted. In emergencies, the anti-panic function unlocks the gates to allow unobstructed passage.
"Last year, we renovated the vestibules at Zarechnaya station, and this year we completed the installation of eight additional exit turnstiles there. At Moskovskaya station, 40 new turnstile units have been installed this year. The previous turnstiles had been in service for more than four decades. The new equipment is more compact, making the passageways 30 centimeters wider. This is especially convenient for people with reduced mobility and passengers with strollers or luggage. The units also feature an integrated payment system and consume less electricity," said Oleg Yaushev, Head of the municipal enterprise Nizhny Novgorod Metro.
The modernization is being carried out at the direction of Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yuri Shalabaev as part of a five-year equipment upgrade program running through 2030. According to Deputy Head of the City Administration Anton Maksimov, turnstiles will be replaced at all metro stations during this period. Burevestnik, Park Kultury, and Chkalovskaya are next in line for upgrades.
